How Physiotherapy Can Help Relieve Hip Pain

Hip pain is common, and it can be caused by a wide variety of issues. The exact location of your hip pain can provide valuable information about the underlying reason of the hip pain.

Problems within the hip joint itself tend to result in pain on the inside of your hip or your groin. It’s a symptom often seen with runners.

However, hip pain on the outside of your hip, upper thigh or outer buttock is usually caused by problems with muscles, ligaments, tendons and other soft tissues that surround your hip joint.

There are lots of ways in which you can get hip joint injuries. For example, during some sports activities or from a bad fall, arthritis, joint separation, muscle strain, hip fractures, bone spurs, etc. The most common reason that the hip area gets hurt is through activities that involve the extension or flexion of the hips. Hip Pain Treatment

There are several exercises that are used for hip pain treatment to not just prevent further hip pain but improve hips mobility. Your physiotherapist will teach you how to stretch the hip flexor muscles as well as strengthening these muscles to provide additional support.

During the initial stage of your physical therapy exercises, you will be encouraged to use your legs and arms. You will also be given advice on where to place your hands and how to avoid injury. The physiotherapist will ask you to complete a range of movements. They will check how you are feeling at various times and assess how long and how far you are progressing.

Other hip pain treatments that may be recommended by your physiotherapist include hot packs and ice packs.

How Long Does it Take to Recover From Hip?

It depends on many factors such as the severity of the injury, how quickly you start a therapy and your ability to recover. Each person recovers differently based on age, physical fitness and if you practice stretching and strengthening at home.

It’s important to see a physiotherapist as they can design a customize plan of care. If it’s not too severe, you can expect to recovery after a couple of weeks.
