Pediatric Physiotherapy

Pediatric Physiotherapy Overview

Pediatric physiotherapy is a specialized area of physiotherapy that works with infants, toddlers, youth and teenagers with different conditions or injuries. Pediatric physiotherapy involves preventative care, and can help to identify physical limitations, increase motor skill development, address mobility concerns, and provide injury rehabilitation.

A pediatric physiotherapy assessment will include a detailed conversation regarding your child’s medical history, a physical examination, a customized treatment program and follow up appointments as needed.

Our Approach & What to Expect on Your First Visit

The advantage of using our physiotherapy clinic lies in our integrative care approach. Pillars of Wellness offers a multitude of different services including Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, Naturopathy, Social Work, Chiropractic Care, Acupuncture, and Yoga Therapy.

During your assessment, the Physiotherapist can discuss any potential need for referrals to other services. Our integrated care, “one-stop-shop” approach will optimize your child’s health and speed of recovery.

It’s very common for young children to not fully understand the function of therapy. Our physiotherapist uses purposeful play, games, activities and excitement to help your child have fun while reaching therapy goals. For older children and teenagers, our physiotherapist will ensure they understand their injuries/condition, and will always be actively involved in their treatment sessions.

Initial Assessment

The initial assessment takes between 45 minutes to an hour, depending on the complexity of the injury or condition. You will be sent an online intake form to be completed prior to the assessment so the Physiotherapist can be well prepared for the assessment.

Plan of Care

A plan of care, including an approximate schedule of treatment sessions will be recommended by your physiotherapist after the initial assessment. To ensure optimal recovery or progress, it is strongly recommended to complete your plan of care and follow any treatment guidelines for best results.
